A major road reconstruction and upgrade project is underway on Wingham Road at Kolodong on NSW’s Mid North Coast.

Improvements to the 1.8km stretch of Wingham Road will include the staged construction of three roundabouts, along with road widening works. New drainage and kerb and guttering will also be constructed as part of a $100 million road upgrade package funded by the NSW Government in association with MidCoast Council.

Due for completion in March 2023, this project seeks to improve safety and transport links for the growing population in Kolodong between Wingham and Taree.

Challenges

The existing two lanes of traffic can see up to 1,600 vehicle movements during peak periods, meaning the efficient supply of site materials and equipment would need to run smoothly along with the rest of the planned works.

Working in inclement weather and managing the movements of complex services including water and sewer meant that the contractor for this project had plenty of challenges to juggle without worrying about supply issues. They needed to secure, accurate and reliable supply of stormwater and drainage components to ensure the project remained on schedule.
