Brandon Road's Modern Townhouses: Cadia's Solution to Tight Deadlines

The Project

Situated in the heart of Runcorn, the Brandon Road development project aimed to bring to life 22 modern townhouses that were poised to become a testament to contemporary architectural design. At its core, the project demanded the implementation of Double Junctions, each meticulously aligned with branches, specifically designed to service each individual townhouse.

The Challenge

While the project was a beacon of innovation in its design, the challenge lay in the unique and specialised request for Double Junctions. These junctions, crucial for the overall functionality of the townhouses, were slated for fabrication and fiberglass reinforcement, a process that typically carried a lengthy delivery timeframe of approximately 4 to 5 weeks. Given the project's stringent deadlines, this delay was simply untenable. The team faced the daunting task of finding a solution that would ensure both efficiency and adherence to the timeline.

Our Solution

Recognising the urgency and importance of adhering to the project timeline, Cadia proposed an ingenious solution. Rather than wait for the bespoke Double Junctions, we suggested implementing individual single junctions, strategically offset to accommodate the branch lines leading to each townhouse. This ingenious approach not only provided a practical solution to the challenge at hand but also delivered substantial cost savings when compared to the original plan involving Double Junctions.

The new design featured a straight run with offset junctions, seamlessly picking up the individual branch lines, and being capped off at the boundary. To further enhance accessibility and maintenance, inspection openings were strategically placed along the line, with one surfacing at the upstream end and a few others thoughtfully distributed along the line. Moreover, to ensure seamless connectivity, the connection was established into an existing manhole at the downstream end of the line.
